Black History Month at Poe Elementary

Student-Led Engagement CultureCommunity

Celebrating Culture. Elevating Student Leadership. Building Community.

At Poe Elementary, a fine arts magnet school, creativity and cultural expression are central to how we learn and grow together. Black History Month is not a separate event. It is a natural extension of our arts-based curriculum, bringing the legacy and the living rhythm of Black history and culture into our classrooms, performances, and daily conversations.

This year’s theme, Roots, Rhythm, and Expression, honors where we have come from, celebrates the vibrant pulse of Black culture, and invites every student and staff member to express and explore these stories through music, art, and performance.

Our vision is to deepen cultural understanding, strengthen belonging, and empower students to connect with history in creative, personal ways. With a month full of events: professional showcases, student-led profiles, library spotlights, and community partnerships. Black History Month at Poe will be a living celebration of identity, creativity, and collective pride.

We are committed to making this a meaningful month, building on Poe’s strengths as a fine arts campus. Through art, music, storytelling, and togetherness, we will celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Americans and inspire our community to keep these lessons alive all year long.
