MORNING DROP OFF
PROCEDURES
Poe Elementary doors open at 7:10am. Students will eat breakfast and wait in the cafeteria until 7:20am before proceeding to classrooms. School begins at 7:30am.
The Poe PTO provides police officers to direct traffic and keep everyone safe every morning. Please remain patient and take directions from the police officer(s) and crossing guard(s) as all have everyone's safety in mind.
Car Line
You may drop off your children using the car line on Hazard (directly in front of the school) or North Blvd, between Wilton and Hazard. Both locations are staffed with our Poe Parent Patrol volunteers who will assist your child in getting out of the car.
We ask that you wait patiently in the car line until you are directed to go forward. Please do not drive out of the line to go around the car(s) in front of you. Please do not hold up the car line to watch your child walk into the building. If you want to see your child enter the school, use the Walk Up procedure instead.
Please, no dropping off in the teacher parking lots.
This is a safety issue. Please use the car line to drop your child off in a safe location.
Walk Up
You may walk your child up to the front of the school. If parking your car, please be mindful of no parking signs and our neighbors' driveways or alleyways. Blocking any driveway or alleyway is prohibited and your car could be towed or ticketed.
END OF DAY DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
School dismisses at 3:00 pm.
There are a couple of ways you may choose to pick up your child:
- Walk-Up
- Car Line
- Independent Walker
- Bus (including daycare buses)
- After School Program - Little Heroes (after school hours)
- After School Program - Poe Activities (after school hours)
PARENT WALK-UP
Students are dismissed to parents at three Walk-Up dismissal areas: Parent Walk-Up South, Parent Walk-Up North, and Parent Walk-Up ODC Gate.
Parent Walk-Up South
(facing South Blvd, between the Art Cow and South Teacher parking lot)
Students in grades 1st & 2nd are assigned to Parent Walk Up South as these classrooms are closest to the South door. (Older siblings will all meet at their youngest sibling's exit door.)
Parent Walk-Up North
(facing North Blvd, East of PreK playground)
Students in grades PreK, K & 3rd should be assigned to Parent Walk Up North door. PreK students will exit through the PreK playground gate. (Older siblings will all meet at their youngest sibling's exit door.)
Parent Walk-Up ODC GATE
(facing North Blvd, West of PreK playground and North Teacher parking lot)
Students in grades 4th & 5th should be assigned to Parent Walk Up ODC gate. (Older siblings will all meet at their youngest sibling's exit door. )
PLEASE NOTE:
Do not park in the NO PARKING AREAS located along North Blvd as this greatly affects the car line as it starts moving and blocks traffic from getting through.
Be courteous towards our neighbors. Keep driveways, alleys, and streets clear.
WHERE IS THE CAR LINE?
Two Lines:
HAZARD & SOUTH BLVD
The HAZARD line should start at Hazard & South Blvd (facing Bissonnet) and go back as far as needed, being mindful to not block driveways, alleys, or streets.
NORTH BLVD & HAZARD
The NORTH BLVD line should start at North & Hazard (facing east or away from the school) and go back as far as needed.
The line on HAZARD will back up past NORTH BLVD prior to dismissal. Please do not block streets, driveways, or alleyways with your car. Leave space for cars to turn onto streets. You will treat the stop sign as you would any stop sign when the line begins to move. Our crossing guards and police officers work hard to keep us safe and to also help make sure the roads are as clear as possible. Sometimes this means a car may be directed to go ahead of you in the car line. Please respect our safety personnel and know that everyone’s best interest is taken into account and the more you cooperate, the more efficient our car line runs.
The Announce Dispatcher will place your car in order according to where it is in the line.
The Loading Zone: The Dismiss Dispatchers will use the car tags to send students to the correct car.
