Teacher Sponsored Clubs

Raven Art Club will be open to all students in grades 4 and 5 this year. Interested students will need to fill out the Art Club Application and submit a portfolio for consideration by Friday, August 30th. Realistic art is preferred. Only 20 spots are available. Art Club will meet on Wednesdays, starting September 11th at 3:15-4:15pm. Either email the art to Sarah.Choi@houstonisd.org, or student can submit the artwork to Ms. Choi in class. 

Poe Choir Auditions will take place on Tuesday, August 27th, 3:15-5pm. Students in grades 3-5 are welcome to try out by singing the "Happy Birthday" song. Please fill out the Audition and Information Form. Results will be announced on Friday, August 30th and rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, September 10th. Choir meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 - 4:45 pm and is a year long commitment. The choir performs at the Poe Carnival and Poe Book Fair, as well as various city and district events. Raven Runners club starts the week of September 16th and will run through the week of December 4th and take a break until late winter for all grades. Grades K-2 meet on Mondays from 3:15-4:00 p.m. Grades 3-5 meet on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00 p.m. Students will come to the cafeteria to check in.  All runners need a water bottle and good running shoes.  We will meet rain or shine.  On rainy days, we will head to the covered pavilion and do a strength workout. **Students will be dismissed through the front of the building unless they are Little Heroes.** Run club is ALL about moving our bodies, learning to make healthy choices, and having fun! Students must register (it is free) at https://runsignup.com/MemberOrg/PoeRavenRunners20242025 to be able to participate. Ms. Lopez is in the process of getting CPR certified. The UIL Team is open to students in grades 2nd-5th to show off their talents in a competitive format. The UIL meetings are NOT after school tutorial sessions. For example, the kid who has loved playing chess since aged 4 may want to compete in Chess Puzzle. The UIL Academics Department encourages participation in extracurricular activities to improve student achievement and showcase student talents. It takes hours of preparation and practice, dedication, and teamwork to strive for excellence. The district dates and list of events are on the HISD UIL website. Poe UIL will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30pm. Students will dismiss through the front of the building unless they are little heroes. Raven and Ravenettes (Dance Team) Auditions will take place over two days: Monday, August 26th and Wednesday, August 28th, with both days starting at 3:30. Students (boys and girls) in grades 3-5 interested in auditioning for the group must be present on both days for consideration and fill out the Audition form. Dance attire preferred but not required. Hair pulled back out of face and dance shoes or barefoot. The homeroom teachers will send the results to students at the end of the day on Friday, August 30th. The dancers will showcase their dance abilities throughout various school and community performances with dance styles like Jazz, Contemporary, Musical Theatre Dance, Lyrical, etc. There is a $60 fee that covers the team shirt and a dance bag. Soccer Fall Season will run from September 9th – December for students in 1st - 5th grades. Tryouts will be held the first and second week. Players will be divided into two groups: Team A and Team B
Team A will be students from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.
Practice Mon and Wed 3:15-4:15 pm
Team B will be students from 1st, 2nd sometimes 3rd also.
Practice on Tues. and Thurs. 3:15-4:15 pm

Gardening Club will be open to all grades this year for Fall (September through December) and Spring (February through May) semesters. Fall Meetings are expected to be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00. Students will transform the space near the theater into a secret garden. Poe Players Auditions for students in 4th and 5th grade will take place on two separate days next month. Returning members will meet on Tuesday, September 10th at 3:15 and new members will try out on Thursday, September 12th at 3:15. Please fill out the Audition form if interested in performing on the stage or serving in Tech as backstage crew. The Poe Players will perform at the Shakespeare Festival and the UIL Play Festival. Meetings are Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:45 pm. Wednesdays are optional for the Tech crew.
