Hello 5th Grade Families,

Please find below important information on the 5th Grade promotion activities planned for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th June 2025. 

While the graduation committee is planning and handling the logistics of the activities, we need your support in order to make them a success. Please take a minute to go through the information below so that we can ensure that these activities will be fun and safe.

Monday ,June 2nd 2025.

Field Trip to Meow Wolf Art Museum from 9.30-11.30am. All homerooms will be accompanied by teachers and parent chaperones. 

* Please send a sack lunch and a bottle of water for your child for the trip.

After Meow Wolf, the students will stop at Fleming Park and have their lunch. We expect to be there by 12pm. If you want to join us there please make sure to have your VIPS sticker from the school. 

They will have Kona Ice treats organized by the graduation committee. The students will then walk back to school.

In order to ensure safety on the field trip make sure that your child is wearing a Poe Uniform. Below are the t-shirt colors for the homerooms.

Wiggins- Purple

Knox-White

Ponce- Red

Riggs-Green

Hall- Blue

Lopez- Orange

Chaperones: If you are riding the bus with the students make sure to come by Poe at 8am.

If you are joining students at Meow Wolf plan to come by Poe and get the VIPS sticker and meet them at Meow Wolf by 9am.

Tuesday, June 3rd - Splash Day- at Poe Spark Park.

* Please send a change of clothes and a towel  for your child by Monday, June 2nd 2025. 

Make sure to put them in a bag and label them with your child's name. The clothes will be stored in their respective homerooms. This is to ensure that all children will have dry clothes to wear after the splash day activities.

Please send your child to school on the day with swim clothes, shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes, sun hats and sunscreen.

Wednesday, June 4th- Kickball Game, Class Parties and Clap Out

The clap out begins at 2.45pm. All parents are invited to come to the front yard of the school to wait for their student to be dismissed via the front entrance of the school. 

Volunteers Needed:

We are in need of volunteers for the "Splash Day" especially to monitor the water slides to ensure safety. Also, we need parents to help organize the class parties for the homerooms.

Date: Friday,30th May 2025

Time:

Cluster A- Hall/Riggs/ Lopez- 8.00-.8.45am

Cluster B- Wiggins/Knox/Ponce- 9.00-9.45am

Venue: Poe Cafeteria

Here's a list of FAQs on the promotion ceremony:

1. What time should my student arrive at the school on the 30th of May?

    Please make sure your child arrives at school before 7.30am. This is important so that your child is able to be ready to attend their respective ceremony.

2. What time should I/we arrive for the ceremony?

 Parents of Cluster A- Hall/Riggs/ Lopez: Please arrive at the school by 7.30am and check in. There will be parent volunteers who will check you in for the ceremony. 

Parents of Cluster B- Wiggins/Knox/Ponce: Please arrive at the school by 8.30am and check in. There will be parent volunteers to check you in for the ceremony. 

Only two adults/guardians per student will be allowed to attend the ceremony. This rule will be strictly enforced on the day!

3. Are there alternate options for extended family/ friends to view the ceremony?

 Yes, the graduation committee is hoping to provide parents with a link to the PTO Youtube channel to be able to view the event live and also access to a recording of the ceremony for viewing after. Information on the link will be provided in the upcoming days.

4. Is there a dress code for the students for the ceremony?

  Students are allowed to wear a formal dress that would suit the occasion. There will be no cap or gowns for the students. Make sure that the attire adheres to the dress code of the school.

5. Will there be a professional photographer?

  Yes, there will be a professional photographer who will take a photo of every student as they receive their certificate from Mr. Alaniz. There will be a QR code provided for the two ceremonies in the printed program for the day. The QR code will also be made available for parents via this email. Once the photos are processed and reviewed they will be available for families to download. Please allow for sufficient time for this process to be completed. 

6. Can I sign out my child after their ceremony?

  Yes, you can. Students are free to leave once their respective ceremony has been completed. There will be snacks and water for students and parents in the 5th grade hallways after each ceremony. You are welcome to stop by the 5th grade hallways to grab a bite, chat with teachers and take photos.

7. Can  parents irrespective of payment of the activity fee attend the ceremony?

   Yes, all students and their parents can attend the ceremony irrespective of payment of the activity fee. Please make sure only two adults per student attends the ceremony.

This is a reminder that this Wednesday, May 7th is "Drop Everything and Read Day" of the Read-A-Thon! Here are some ways you can support your child read more and join in the fun.

1. Send your child to school dressed as their favorite book character.

3.  Keep logging on the Read-A-Thon minutes for your child!

Good afternoon all,

If you are able to, please send packs of baby wipes for students to wipe their hands after chalking, fabric markers and sharpies on Friday for the All Art Day activities. The PTO will be providing the t-shirts and the chalk.

Here are some important updates and information concerning the 5th grade activity fees, VIP seats/sponsorships and teacher lunches. 

Firstly, thank you so much for your response to our email concerning the payment of the 5th grade activity fee. We appreciate all those who have paid for sponsorships, the activity fee and donated towards the 5th grade promotion fund. All your contributions help support the numerous activities and events that compromise the 5th grade promotion.

VIP Seats/ Sponsorships:

As of now we have a few more sponsorship opportunities available in the two clusters of the 5th grade classes. Each sponsorship equals two VIP seats at your child’s promotion ceremony.

Riggs/Lopez/Hall: 3  slots available

Knox/Ponce/Wiggins: 7 slots available

Please consider supporting the 5th grade activity fund!

 5th Grade Activity Fee:

Each 5th grade family is expected to pay a $100 fee. A payment plan is available on the payment form on the PTO website. Please make sure to indicate your child’s t-shirt size! Here is the link to the form:https://poepto.membershiptoolkit.com/form/m/315066

Begin payment plan by Jan. 17th to receive your desired t-shirt by the end of February.

Timely payment of the activity fee will ensure that we can order the promotion t-shirts as soon as possible.

 We are doing our best to arrange the dates for the lunches as soon as possible and to ensure that all those who paid early are able to take part. As of now spring term is looking out to be very busy so, please bear with us. In addition we are looking into a second session of lunches if the need arises. 

Those who are able to take part will be informed via email in due course.

We were able to give a holiday gift card to all our teachers to show  appreciation for all the hard work they do.

Here are some important reminders for Moana Jr. dress rehearsals and the evening shows for the 4th and 5th of December:

The room assignments for the students to dress (the ensembles) are as follows:  

Group A – Ms. Riggs’ fine Arts group  -  Mr. Quevedo’s classroom  

Group B – Ms. Lopez’s class – Ms. Reardon’s classroom   

Group C – Mr. Hall’s class- Mrs. Reyes’ classroom     

Group D – Ms. Knox’s Fine arts group- Mrs. Noone’s Classroom  

Group E – Mrs. Wiggins’ Class -  Mr. Tellis’ classroom  

Cast members will meet in the Theater room.  

We will also have a dress rehearsals on December 4th and 5th at 8am.  Please send students to school dressed in the items listed in the costume description below and with a change of clothes (school uniform) so that they can change after the rehearsal.

Poe's annual Thanksgiving Picnic Lunch is tomorrow, 21st November! You can bring a lunch or purchase a traditional Thanksgiving lunch tray from the Cafeteria.

5th Grade Lunch time is 1.15-1.45pm.

Drink Competition: We have till the 23rd to drop of kid-friendly drinks at the front entrance of the school. The winning class will get a pizza party!!

Class Booth: Please support our class booth by volunteering. We still have the 12.30-2.00pm slot without volunteers. Grab a friend and join the carnival fun by volunteering. A huge thank you to the class parents who have already volunteered!

 So sorry for the late message. This is to answer some questions and clarify some information about the trip tomorrow.

1.Yes, there will be pizza and Kona Ice treats for the students. But, please make sure to send a bottle of water with your child for the trip!

2. Your student can wear school appropriate clothing other than the uniform if they choose for the trip.

Good afternoon Families,

Here's a few updates and reminders concerning the field trip this Thursday, 10th October 2024. 

The students will be going to the Hobby Center to watch "Symphonic Fly" and then to Discovery Green for lunch. Afterwards the students will be returning to the school by 1.30pm.

Important: Please make sure to sign and send back to school the permission slip. Without the signed permission slip your child will not be able to go on the field trip!!

With the support of the PTO and 5th Grade room parents the students will be provided with pizza and Kona ice at Discovery Green as a special treat.

Important:You do not need to send your child a sack lunch for the trip. 

We are looking forward to this much deserved trip for our students and hope to make it a memorable day for them.

We have our first 5th Grade Field Trip!

Your child should have come home today with a permission slip for the field trip on Thursday 10th October to the Hobby Center. Please make sure to sign it and send it back with your child on Monday. 

Poe Carnival Updates

Drinks Contest October 9th-23rd! Donate drinks (water, sports drinks, juice boxes and soda). The class with the most donations wins a pizza party! 

Donate Stuffed Animals- October 18th-25th Donate clean, gently used stuffed animals for the "Walk with Animals" booth.

Volunteer at Ms.Knox's class booth! We still need volunteers to work in our class booth. This a wonderful opportunity for you to support our teacher and the school!
