5th grade end of Year Info

Good afternoon 5th grade parents,

Your 5th grade committee has been hard at work to get dates and details in order for all of the upcoming activities! Please see below for some information regarding the upcoming activities for your 5th grader and opportunities for you to participate.

If you have already paid the 5th grade activities fee, THANK YOU!

If you still have not taken care of 5th grade activity fee for any reason, please reach out to Ms. Salinas (ESALINAS@houstonisd.org). We desperately want your child to get an appropriate shirt size and can only make that happen if you reach out!

May 31^st: Morning Promotion Ceremony - Poe Stage followed by reception in the 5th grade hallway

8:00am - 8:45am: Salinas/Rox/Ponce/Life Skills students
9:00am - 9:45am: Lopez/Riggs/Hall students
Two (2) people per student allowed; strictly enforced and required for safety
We are working on the possibility of a virtual option (NEW this year!)
Professional photography of the ceremony
Your student is welcome to go home with you after the ceremony, not required

June 3^rd: Poe Playground Water Day

Activities, water, activities and tons of fun
- Inflatable slides
- Snow Cones
- DJ
- Snacks
- Fire Department invited to join and douse the kids with water

June 4^th: Pajama Day + Movie Day

Pizza lunch will be provided (feel free to send your child with a packed lunch if preferred or required)
School appropriate pajamas may be worn on this day. Bring a blanket!
Have your student bring a game to share with friends

June 5^th: Last Day of School Fun

Lunch will be provided for all 5th graders
2:45pm: Join parents and Poe at the Main entrance for the traditional clap out of all 5th graders

The School Choice Window is open now through February 23rd. Poe will offer two “lab” sessions for 5th grade parents and guardians between 3-4pm on two upcoming Thursdays: February 15th and 22nd. These sessions are intended to provide one-on-one assistance with the application platform courtesy of our Magnet Coordinator, Ms. Clayton as well as Ms. Navarrete.

Thu, Feb 15 3pm: 5th grade School Choice lab session
Thu, Feb 22 3pm: 5th grade School Choice lab session
Fri, Feb 23: Phase One School Choice Applications Due

School Choice Thursdays are extended through the application window. Families can schedule a tour directly with the campus they wish to visit. Middle School tours continue on Thursdays at 1pm.

Dear 2024 parents of Poe 5^th graders,

Your 5^th Grade team of volunteers and teachers are hard at work preparing for the end of year festivities and have so many fun things planned! In order to make these fun celebrations happen, each family will need to pay a 5^th grade due. Below is a breakdown of what your dues cover and a list of some important dates.

Dues: $75 per 5^th grader

*To make things easier for some families, we have also included a payment plan option.

** Using the link to pay dues, there is an option for donations to the 5^th grade fund. Any donations are greatly appreciated!
