Going through my Weekly View archives for last year, I realized that I never sent out a newsletter after the last day - I must’ve been in summer mode already! I want to pause and thank this entire community for an amazing, incredible, and welcoming first year here at Poe. This campus does not work without all its stakeholders pitching in, and from our wonderful faculty and staff to our community organizations, parents, guardians, and immensely active and supportive PTO, our students were able to have a great 2023-2024 school year. As we look ahead to this year, our 96th, I eagerly await the engaging and meaningful lessons, activities, and experiences that our kids will learn from and participate in throughout our time together.
Ravens, there’s still some time before our first day of school - the new year starts on Monday, August 12th. Our instructional hours remain from 7:30am-3:00pm, and I’ll have more details in next week’s Weekly View regarding changes in the arrival and dismissal procedures, as well as information about PikMyKid.
Just a few announcements for a couple of events in the coming week:
- Saturday, August 3rd from 9:00am-10:30am - Final Kindergarten Playdate, Poe Playground
- Thursday, August 8th from 5:00pm-6:30pm - Meet the Teacher Ice Cream Social
That’s right, next Thursday, August 8th is our annual Meet the Teacher Ice Cream Social! Grade level teachers will contact families next Wednesday, August 7th to welcome students to their class. This will serve as the official announcement of class rosters. If you do not receive an email before Meet the Teacher on Thursday evening, there will be staff on hand to point you in the right direction and ensure that we have your contact information updated in all systems.
We’ll be working with our PTO to profile our Poe team, both new and returning members, over the next week. I cannot wait for y’all to meet this team and I just know we are destined for great things as we get set to start another chapter in Poe’s story.
Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you soon next Thursday!
Sincerely,
Jon Alaniz
